The livestock chain
needs a control layer.
This is it.

Livestock OS is South Africa's livestock movement, compliance, and traceability infrastructure. Every animal registered in the system carries a verifiable, timestamped chain record — from farm through vet, transport, gate, to abattoir.

The Operational Chain

One connected chain.
Six operational points.

Livestock OS maps the physical movement of animals onto a digital state machine. Each step has a defined state, required documentation, and a verified authority. A batch cannot advance until the prior step is confirmed.

01
Farm
Animal registration, batch creation, compliance documentation initiated.
Operational
02
Vet
Veterinary Health Certificate issued and authenticated electronic approval recorded. Validity rules applied per applicable disease-control protocol and permit conditions.
Operational
03
Transport
Movement declaration logged: vehicle, driver, route, FMD zone, estimated arrival.
Operational
04
Gate
Intake confirmation: head count reconciliation, arrival state, hold or clear decision.
Operational
05
Abattoir
Ante-mortem inspection, slaughter event, carcass record, classification, lab result capture.
Operational
06
Results
Final compliance package closed. Immutable chain record. Full traceability available.

Why This Exists

South Africa's livestock chain
runs on paper and trust.

Manual veterinary certificates, fragmented movement records, paper-based compliance documents, and no single animal identity standard create real, measurable problems for every participant. Livestock OS addresses these directly.

Disease control
FMD and other notifiable disease outbreaks require rapid, accurate tracing of animal movement. Manual records cannot support the response speed required. A digital chain record enables accurate tracing of any batch from farm to slaughter.
Compliance risk
The Animal Diseases Act 35/1984 and Meat Safety Act 40/2000 impose obligations on every participant. Without a complete, verifiable record, any participant faces exposure in the event of an investigation, outbreak, or legal dispute.
Market access
Export markets for South African beef, lamb, and game require documented traceability from farm to border. Without a complete chain record, demonstrating provenance and compliance is a manual, expensive process — where it is possible at all.
Stock theft & fraud
Stock theft remains a material cost for South African producers. A digital animal identity record linked to ear tag, RFID, and registered owner creates a verifiable ownership chain that makes stolen animals harder to move and sell undetected.
Accountability gaps
When animals die in transit, arrive short, or are condemned at slaughter, there is typically no complete record of where accountability lies. A timestamped, role-authenticated chain record assigns accountability at every step — before a dispute arises.
Retailer & buyer requirements
South African retailers and export buyers are increasingly requiring provenance, welfare, and compliance documentation at batch level. A Livestock OS chain record positions your operation to meet those requirements without additional data collection processes.
